Time was provided for reflection on leadership qualities, the needs facing the community for the next four years and what the Rule of Benedict says about the role of the prioress.
Sisters Anne Stedman (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Susan Quaintance (Chicago, Illinois) facilitated the discernment process for the election.
Election
St. Benedict Monastery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Sister Esther Fangman officiated at the canonical election. Each chapter member came forward with their vote and placed it in a basket on the altar. Sister Mary Catherine Stana pledged to maintain the confidentiality of each sisters' vote and as secretary to record the ballots. Sisters Florence Lynch and Raphael Frank counted the ballots.

The Sisters of St. Benedict Monastery elected Sister Benita DeMatteis to serve for the next four year as their prioress. Sister Benita is presently serving as principal of a local grade school in the Pittsburgh area.
